NATO summit in Ankara to address defense spending, Euro-Atlantic threats

Türkiye's Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said NATO leaders will convene in Ankara on July 7-8 to examine defense investment plans and Euro-Atlantic security challenges, as first lady Emine Erdogan will host a reception for visiting leaders and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan chairs the North Atlantic Council meeting the following day.
Türkiye's Communications Director Burhanettin Duran announced on Sunday that NATO leaders will convene in Ankara on July 7-8 to examine progress on increasing defense investments and to assess the alliance's deterrence posture against Euro-Atlantic security challenges.
Strategic Defense Agenda
The summit will focus on implementation steps regarding the alliance's decision to increase defense investments, Duran said in a statement. Leaders are expected to evaluate deterrence and defense efforts while addressing strategic-level risks and challenges facing the Euro-Atlantic region, he added.
Host Country Protocol
As part of the summit proceedings, first lady Emine Erdogan will host heads of state and government along with their spouses at a reception and dinner to be held at the Presidential Complex on July 7, according to the statement.
The North Atlantic Council will convene on July 8 at the level of allied heads of state and government, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Turkish leader will also hold bilateral meetings with participating leaders on the sidelines of the summit, the statement noted.
