Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel urged all sides Thursday to cooperate, saying that "efforts are underway to address the protesters' demands," the Kathmandu Post reported.

His remarks came after the death toll from violent protests since early this week jumped to 34, with 1,368 injured, with soldiers deployed across the country amid a curfew to restore law and order.

"I appeal to all parties to be confident that efforts are underway to address the protesters' demands swiftly and to cooperate in maintaining peace and order in a disciplined manner," said the president, emphasizing efforts to protect democracy and maintain law and order.

Nepal Police Central spokesman Binod Ghimire said that “14,307 prisoners have escaped from various prisons across the country” during the protests.

A curfew has been extended through Friday, halting vehicle movement and limiting market activity, leading to falling demand and early closures of major markets. It has severely disrupted the supply of essential goods, including vegetables, fuel and dairy.

The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) confirmed adequate fuel stock but cited security concerns halting distribution. Despite the low demand, the NOC warned against hoarding fuel.

Retailers and consumer advocates reported no immediate shortages but urged urgent government action, calling for state-run suppliers to ensure access to essentials and possibly resume home deliveries to avoid a larger crisis.
