Nigeria’s Tinubu announces second term bid for 2027

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will seek a second term in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election. He pledged to place the country on “an irreversible path of economic growth and democratic consolidation,” vowing to serve with even greater determination.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially declared his intention to run for a second term in the 2027 presidential election. The announcement was made by Senator Pius Anyim, chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Primary Election Committee. In a subsequent statement, Tinubu thanked party members for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to national development.
Economic and democratic pledges
The 74‑year‑old president pledged that if granted another four‑year term, he would put Nigeria on “an irreversible path of economic growth and democratic consolidation.” He vowed to serve his country with even greater determination than during his first term. Tinubu entered politics in 1992, was forced into exile after a 1994 coup, returned in 1998, and served as governor of Lagos from 1999 to 2007 before winning the presidency in 2023.
