Assembly of States Parties president cautions against speculation as review of Karim Khan continues following sexual misconduct allegations.

The oversight body of the International Criminal Court confirmed Monday that no ruling has been reached in the ongoing disciplinary proceedings involving Prosecutor Karim Khan, urging against speculation as the review continues. The case has drawn attention amid Khan's high-profile investigations into Israeli officials.

Process confidential and ongoing

Paivi Kaukoranta, president of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP)—the court's management and legislative body—said the disciplinary process remains confidential and underway. The case stems from a 2024 investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct made by a member of the prosecutor's office, with additional allegations surfacing in 2025. Khan has denied wrongdoing and took voluntary leave in May 2025.

Review continues

The ASP Bureau is reviewing findings from the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services along with advice from an independent panel of judicial experts. "The matters are complex, and the Bureau is working diligently to make its decision in a proper manner and without delay with full respect for the due process rights and privacy of all persons affected," the body said in a statement. It called for respect for the privacy of those involved and the integrity of the process.

Context of allegations

Earlier media reports suggested a panel of three judges found no basis for misconduct, concluding that UN investigators' findings "do not establish misconduct or breach of duty under the relevant framework." The disciplinary case emerged as Khan's office pursued investigations into alleged war crimes involving Israeli officials and military operations in Gaza, including arrest warrant applications for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
