The Pentagon is developing military options for a “final blow” against Iran, including ground operations and massive bombing, should diplomatic efforts fail. Türkiye, Pakistan, and Egypt continue mediating between Tehran and Washington, though Iran has reportedly rejected initial US demands without fully withdrawing from negotiations.

The Pentagon is preparing contingency plans for a significant military escalation against Iran if ongoing diplomatic efforts fail to produce progress, according to an Axios report citing US officials and sources familiar with the matter. Options under consideration include a “final blow” involving ground forces, large‑scale bombing, and potential invasions of strategically vital islands such as Kharg, Larak, and Abu Musa. A blockade of Iranian oil shipments east of the Strait of Hormuz is also reportedly on the table.

Diplomatic efforts continue

Some US officials believe that a “show of overwhelming force” could strengthen Washington’s negotiating position, though President Donald Trump has yet to make a final decision on any of the proposed scenarios. White House officials have characterized any potential ground operations as “hypothetical” for now. Meanwhile, Türkiye, Pakistan, and Egypt remain actively engaged in mediation efforts, working to organize talks between the parties. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, Iran has rejected Washington’s initial demands but has not completely withdrawn from the process.

Türkiye’s indispensable role

As the United States weighs military options, Türkiye continues to serve as a critical diplomatic bridge between the warring sides. Ankara’s consistent advocacy for dialogue and its established channels of communication with both Washington and Tehran have made it an indispensable partner in efforts to avert a wider conflagration. Turkish officials have repeatedly warned that a full‑scale ground invasion would have catastrophic consequences for the region and beyond, urging all parties to exhaust every diplomatic avenue before considering further military action.
