Putin tells Trump that alleged Ukrainian drone strike ‘will not go unanswered’

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned his US counterpart Donald Trump that an alleged Ukrainian drone attack on a presidential residence will elicit a response, according to a Kremlin aide. The claim threatens to undermine recent diplomatic talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
Phone call follows Trump-Zelenskyy meeting
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov stated Monday that Putin and Trump held a phone call in which Trump briefed the Russian leader on his Sunday meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Putin raised Moscow's allegation of a Ukrainian drone strike on his residence in the Novgorod region, which Russia claims occurred shortly after the US talks.
Russia to revise its negotiating position
Ushakov conveyed that such actions "will not go unanswered" and that Russia intends to continue working with the US toward a settlement. However, he explicitly stated, "Russia's position will be revised on a number of agreements reached in the previous stage." Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier claimed the attack involved 91 long-range drones but said Moscow would not withdraw from talks.
Ukrainian denial and accusation of sabotage
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy swiftly denied the allegations on social media platform X. He accused Moscow of fabricating the claim to "undermine all achievements of our shared diplomatic efforts" and to justify further attacks on Ukraine. The exchange underscores the fragile nature of the ongoing peace negotiations and their impact on regional security dynamics.
