Qatari emir tells Trump diplomatic solutions key to Middle East stability

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani told US President Donald Trump that political and diplomatic solutions are essential to ensure regional security and prevent further escalation, as Doha continues facilitating Pakistani mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran following the February outbreak of hostilities.
Doha-Washington talks
Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani spoke with US President Donald Trump on Thursday, stressing the priority of “political and diplomatic solutions” to bolster regional stability amid ongoing Middle East tensions. Sheikh Tamim emphasized the importance of “dialogue among all parties” to prevent further escalation and secure the region, according to Qatar's state news agency QNA.
During the conversation, Trump expressed appreciation for Qatar's role in supporting Pakistani mediation efforts aimed at resolving the conflict between Washington and Tehran. The US president praised Doha's efforts to “bridge differences” and facilitate communication channels between various parties, the agency added.
Regional ceasefire context
The call took place against the backdrop of heightened tensions that have engulfed the Middle East since February, when the US and Israel launched military strikes against Iran. Tehran retaliated with attacks targeting Israel and American allies in the Gulf states, alongside the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire took effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, though subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. Trump later extended the truce indefinitely, with both sides continuing to exchange proposals in an effort to resume direct negotiations and end the conflict, according to QNA.
