Romania's Defense Ministry reported two separate incidents of suspected drone intrusions into its airspace near the Ukrainian border on Tuesday. The military scrambled fighter jets from the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base to investigate both occurrences, with the first object returning to Ukrainian territory and the second being tracked by F-16 aircraft.

Romanian authorities detected two separate suspected drone incursions into the country's airspace near the border with Ukraine on Tuesday, prompting immediate military response. The Romanian Defense Ministry confirmed that its air surveillance systems identified unauthorized aerial objects entering from Ukrainian territory, marking continued border security concerns.

First Incident in Tulcea County

The initial intrusion occurred in the morning hours over Tulcea County, with the unidentified object entering Romanian airspace from the Valcov area of Ukraine and heading toward Chilia Veche. In response, Romanian authorities scrambled two German Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base at 6:28 AM local time (0428 GMT) and issued a Ro-Alert warning to residents in Tulcea County.

Military Response and Tracking

By 7:11 AM (0511 GMT), the Typhoon pilots established radar contact with the target but confirmed it had moved back across the border into Ukrainian territory and was no longer within Romanian airspace. Shortly afterward, at approximately 7:50 AM, defense radars detected a second intrusion, this time in the Galati area, with F-16 jets quickly establishing radar contact with the new target.

Ongoing Border Monitoring

The Romanian Defense Ministry stated that both Romanian and NATO air defense systems continue to actively monitor the situation along the country's eastern border with Ukraine. The incidents represent the latest in a series of airspace violations that have occurred since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began, keeping regional security forces on high alert
