Rubio: US, Iran deal could come ‘maybe today’

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that a deal to end the war with Iran could be finalised as soon as “maybe today.” Speaking in India, he said there is “a pretty solid thing on the table” to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and pursue time‑limited nuclear negotiations.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday that a potential agreement between the United States and Iran to end the war could be announced “maybe today.” Speaking to reporters in New Delhi during a four‑day visit to India, Rubio stated: “Work still in progress. We thought we might have some news last night, maybe today…”
Strait of Hormuz and nuclear talks
Rubio revealed that there is “a pretty solid thing on the table in terms of their ability to open up the straits, get the straits open, enter into a very real, significant, time‑limited negotiation on the nuclear matters. Hopefully we can pull it off.” He stressed that President Donald Trump is “not going to make a bad deal,” and that the administration will “give diplomacy every chance to succeed before we explore the alternative.”
