A detachment of Russia's Pacific Fleet, including the corvette Gromky, the submarine Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and a sea tug, has arrived at Jakarta's Tanjung Priok port. The ships were welcomed by Russian embassy officials and Indonesian maritime authorities. Joint Russian-Indonesian naval maneuvers, including maneuvering and communications drills, are scheduled to take place next week.

A detachment of warships from Russia's Pacific Fleet has arrived at Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital, ahead of planned joint exercises with the Indonesian Navy. The visit underscores growing naval cooperation between the two countries amid shifting regional dynamics.

Three vessels to participate in exercises

The Russian detachment includes the corvette Gromky, the submarine Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and the sea tug Andrey Stepanov, according to a statement from the Pacific Fleet's press service. Upon arrival, the ships were greeted by representatives of the Russian Embassy in Indonesia as well as local maritime authorities. Indonesian officials noted that the friendly visit of the Russian Navy is considered an honor for the capital.

Joint drills scheduled for next week

The press service added that Russia and Indonesia plan to carry out joint maneuvering and communications drills in the coming days. The exercises, expected to take place next week, will involve coordinated naval maneuvers aimed at enhancing interoperability between the two fleets. Indonesian Navy personnel and local residents will also be offered planned tours of the Russian vessels during the visit.

Growing Russia-Indonesia defense ties

The naval visit comes as Russia seeks to expand its military partnerships in Southeast Asia. Indonesia, which maintains a policy of non-alignment, has engaged with multiple global powers while balancing regional security concerns. The joint drills represent a continuation of practical military cooperation between Moscow and Jakarta.
