Saudi Arabia has launched a new initiative to supply ships in the Gulf region with fuel, water, food, and medical supplies amid ongoing regional escalation. The Saudi General Port Authority announced the move as part of efforts to support maritime traffic and maintain supply chain reliability, with Iranian missile and drone attacks continuing to target the Eastern Region.

Saudi Arabia has unveiled a new maritime support initiative aimed at providing essential supplies to vessels operating in the Gulf, as regional tensions continue to disrupt vital shipping routes. The Saudi General Port Authority announced the program on Saturday, positioning the kingdom as a key hub for maritime assistance amid escalating hostilities in the area.

The initiative encompasses integrated services designed to rapidly meet the needs of ships traversing the region. According to the port authority, vessels will have access to fuel, water, food, and medical provisions, alongside crew change services. Officials emphasized that the program reflects Saudi ports' readiness to offer support under all circumstances while reinforcing the reliability of global supply chains.

The announcement comes against a backdrop of heightened military activity in the region. Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province has been subjected to repeated Iranian drone and missile strikes, which Tehran has framed as retaliation for US and Israeli attacks on Iran that began on Feb. 28. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway that normally handles approximately 20 million barrels of oil daily along with roughly 20 percent of global liquefied natural gas trade, has also been effectively closed to most shipping by Iranian authorities, who have threatened to target vessels attempting passage without coordination.

Riyadh's maritime support push is widely seen as part of broader efforts to maintain regional stability and ensure uninterrupted maritime commerce. By offering integrated logistical services, Saudi ports aim to provide an alternative support network for commercial vessels facing increasing operational challenges in the Gulf's volatile security environment. The move also underscores the kingdom's commitment to safeguarding its territorial waters and maintaining its role as a key player in global energy logistics.
