Saudi broadcaster removes Turkish TV series from network

Major Middle Eastern satellite network stops airing Turkish TV series
The pan-Arab Dubai-based Middle East Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on Monday announced that its affiliated television channels had stopped broadcasting Turkish TV serials, which generally enjoy high viewership ratings in the Arab world.
MBC confirmed to The National, an English news service based in Abu Dhabi, that the broadcaster was ordered to remove all Turkish programs from its channels until further notice.
“There is a decision that concerns several media outlets in many Arab countries that Turkish dramas are to be taken off air, including MBC. That was from 1 a.m. Saudi Arabian time on March 2,” said MBC spokesman Mazen Hayek.
Hayek added that the move has affected six shows, including the crime drama “Al Dakheel,” or “İçerde” in Turkish, as well as “Anta Watani,” also known as “Vatanım Sensin.”
The MBC spokesman said the move could spark development for the regional television industry.
“It could be an opportunity for all of us to produce premium Arabic dramas with more quality,” he said.
