Saudi, Syrian FMs discuss bilateral ties by phone

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received a call from his Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shaibani to discuss bilateral relations and developments of common interest. The call reflects Syria’s new administration’s push to expand regional cooperation after the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a telephone conversation with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani on Thursday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry announced. The two top diplomats discussed bilateral relations and regional developments of mutual interest, though no further details were provided.
Post-Assad regional engagement
The call comes as Syria’s transitional administration, led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, works to expand cooperation with regional and international partners following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024. Assad fled to Russia, ending the Baath Party’s decades-long rule that began in 1963. The new Syrian leadership has sought to rebuild ties with Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, as part of its broader effort to reintegrate into the Arab fold and secure reconstruction support.
