The death toll from the ongoing floods in southern Thailand has reached 85, according to government statements shared by local media. Millions of residents in nine provinces have been affected as heavy rainfall continues to inundate large areas of the country.
Impact on southern provinces
Officials said the hardest-hit areas include Songkhla province, where the government confirmed that dozens of fatalities were directly linked to the flooding. The remaining deaths occurred during the broader crisis, which has disrupted transport, power lines and local infrastructure.
Nationwide response and evacuations
Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that over 1.07 million households — representing more than 2.9 million people — are currently impacted by the flooding. Emergency teams have deployed boats, food supplies, water purification units and mobile kitchens to support those forced to leave their homes. Residents have been asked to comply quickly with any evacuation alerts as weather conditions may worsen.
State of emergency and weather warnings
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has declared a state of emergency in Songkhla, assigning the supreme commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces to coordinate national relief efforts. The Meteorological Department has also issued renewed warnings for heavy rainfall and the risk of flash floods across Thailand’s southern coastline, urging strict precautions.
