Trump: Iran deal must be 'great and meaningful' or 'no deal'

US President Donald Trump said Monday that any agreement with Iran must be 'great and meaningful' to secure his approval, explicitly rejecting the 2015 nuclear deal negotiated by the Obama administration and warning that he would otherwise abandon negotiations without a deal.
US President Donald Trump on Monday declared that any nuclear agreement with Iran must be "great and meaningful" to win his support. Writing on his Truth Social platform, he warned that the alternative to a comprehensive deal would be "no deal" entirely.
Ruling out 2015 framework
Trump said any accord would be the "exact opposite" of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action negotiated by former President Barack Obama, describing the 2015 pact as "a direct and open path to a Nuclear Weapon." He added: "No, I don't do deals like that!"
Trump unilaterally withdrew the United States from the JCPOA in 2018, reimposing sanctions on Tehran while Iran gradually rolled back its own commitments. The remarks reaffirm his longstanding opposition to the agreement as tensions persist over Iran's advancing nuclear program.
