Trump urges Iran to finalise deal, tells Netanyahu ‘not to strike’ back

President Donald Trump has called on Iran to return to negotiations following its missile strike on Israel, suggesting a deal could be signed within days. He criticised Israeli strikes on Beirut and said he was calling Prime Minister Netanyahu to tell him “not to strike” Iran in retaliation.
US President Donald Trump urged Iran on Sunday to return to negotiations after its missile strike on Israel, suggesting a final agreement could be reached within days. “You’ve shot your missiles, that’s enough. Get back to the table and make a deal,” Trump told Fox News. He said an agreement with Tehran could be signed “Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of this coming week.”
Criticism of Israeli strikes
The Iranian attack, which targeted Haifa and Nazareth, was the first on Israeli territory since the April 8 ceasefire and came after an Israeli strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs earlier Sunday. Trump emphasised that the Israeli military actions in Lebanon were “not coordinated with the United States” and said he was “not happy” about the strikes targeting Hezbollah in Beirut. He noted that the Iranian strikes “didn’t hurt anybody” and expressed hope that Israel does not retaliate, warning that further strikes would perpetuate endless conflict.
Effort to prevent escalation
Trump told Axios he was calling Netanyahu “right now” to tell him “not to strike” Iran in retaliation. His intervention came after the first direct Iranian missile attack on Israel since the ceasefire took effect in early April. Trump previously said he was “perturbed” by Netanyahu’s position of “constantly fighting” with Lebanon.
