Trump urges nation to 'move on' after latest Epstein document release

President Donald Trump has called for the country to focus on other matters following the release of new Jeffrey Epstein-related documents, claiming they reveal a conspiracy against him. He dismissed the files as a "Democrat problem" while commenting on other high-profile names mentioned, including Elon Musk.
President Donald Trump has stated it is time for the nation to move past the controversy surrounding newly released court documents related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Speaking in the Oval Office on Tuesday, Trump framed the files as evidence of a personal conspiracy rather than a source of damaging information about him.
Claims of Political Conspiracy
“I think it’s really time for the country to get onto something else now that nothing came out about me, other than it was a conspiracy against me, literally by Epstein and other people,” Trump told reporters. He alleged that Epstein and a reporter, whom he named as Michael Wolf, conspired to ensure his electoral defeat. The President characterized the scandal as “a Democrat problem. It’s not a Republican problem.”
Comments on Other Named Figures
When questioned about other prominent individuals mentioned in the documents, such as tech billionaire Elon Musk and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Trump expressed confidence in their innocence. “I'm sure they're fine. Otherwise, it would have been major headlines,” he remarked. The files, released by the Justice Department last Friday, include communications showing Musk and Lutnick had contact with Epstein, though both men have publicly stated they declined his invitations or spent no meaningful time with him.
Context of the Epstein Case
Jeffrey Epstein died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. He had previously pleaded guilty in 2008 to procuring a minor for prostitution, a deal widely criticized as lenient. The latest document release is part of ongoing legal proceedings related to his alleged operation of a sex trafficking network that implicated numerous wealthy and powerful associates.
