Warning issued in Miyazaki and Kochi provinces
A strong earthquake struck southwestern Japan on Monday evening, with local authorities issuing a tsunami warning.
According to the US Geological Survey, the 6.8 magnitude quake hit the province of Miyazaki at a depth of 48.9 km (30.3 miles) at around 1219 GMT.
According to Japanese government authorities, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Hyuganada Sea and a tsunami warning was issued in Miyazaki and Kochi provinces.
It said the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.9.
