Türkiye captures senior Daesh figure in Afghanistan-Pakistan region

Turkish intelligence agents have apprehended a high-ranking Daesh administrator in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border area, who had agreed to conduct suicide attacks in multiple countries, including Türkiye.
Turkish intelligence has captured a senior (Daesh) figure in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region and repatriated him to Türkiye, security sources confirmed on Monday. The individual, identified as Mehmet Goren (codenamed Yahya), was described as a high-ranking administrator within the terror organization.
Administrator Tasked with Suicide Attack Plots
According to the sources, the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) determined that Goren had agreed to carry out suicide attacks targeting civilians in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Türkiye, and Europe. He had reportedly risen to an administrative role after being active in ISIS training camps. MIT tracked his movement from Türkiye to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region, where he had previously survived airstrikes against ISIS elements.

The operation also revealed that Goren had been operating alongside another captured terrorist, Ozgur Altun (codenamed Abu Yasir Al Turki), who was previously arrested for transferring ISIS members from Türkiye to the same region. This capture highlights Türkiye's ongoing counter-terrorism efforts targeting transnational terror networks beyond its immediate borders.
