Türkiye publishes book detailing Israel's targeting of journalists in Gaza

Türkiye's Communications Directorate has released a book documenting Israel's systematic attacks on journalists and media infrastructure in Gaza. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan authored the foreword, accusing Israel of "murdering the truth."
Türkiye's Communications Directorate has published a comprehensive book documenting Israel's systematic targeting of journalists and media infrastructure in Gaza, framing it as a campaign to suppress the truth of the war. Titled Murdering the Truth – Israel’s Campaign Against Journalism, the book was released on Wednesday in Turkish, English, and Arabic, featuring a foreword by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Documenting the killings and a deliberate strategy
The book provides detailed accounts of what it describes as Israel's deliberate efforts to silence reporting in Gaza, particularly since October 2023. It includes testimonies and documentation of the bombing of journalists' homes, attacks on their families, and the destruction of communication networks. It memorializes the lives and work of 283 journalists killed, including 37 women, who were wearing press insignia at the time of their deaths.
Erdogan's foreword: accusing Israel of silencing truth
In his foreword, President Erdogan argues that Israel's goal extends beyond military action to include the erasure of historical record. "What Israel seeks is not only to kill a people... but also to act as if these massacres never occurred," he writes. He accuses Israel of specifically targeting journalists to destroy the narrative of its actions, stating, "Israel is targeting journalists who are trying to uncover the truth behind the narrative it has constructed," in violation of all norms of war and humanitarian law.
A call for responsibility and a pledge to bear witness
Erdogan emphasizes the fundamental role of journalists in conflict zones and states that ensuring their safety is a core responsibility of nations. Where this fails, he argues, sharing the truth becomes impossible. He salutes the killed journalists' "unwavering struggle" and pledges that Türkiye will continue working to ensure the truths they died to reveal reach a global audience. The publication is positioned as an act of historical witness against what Ankara labels a genocide.
