Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan attends TRT World Forum 2025 with the theme of "The Global Reset" in Istanbul, Turkiye on November 01, 2025.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has emphasized that ending PKK terrorist activities in Türkiye, Iraq, Syria, and Iran is crucial for regional stability. During his visit to Iraq, Fidan called for the group's complete withdrawal from occupied areas and highlighted enhanced cooperation with Iraqi authorities.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has declared that the cessation of PKK terrorist activities across multiple countries is essential for achieving regional stability and security. During a joint press conference with Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein in Baghdad, Fidan emphasized that while the group's decision to dissolve represents positive progress, complete withdrawal from occupied territories in Iraq and Syria remains critical.

Regional Cooperation Against Terrorism

Fidan acknowledged close collaboration with both Baghdad and Erbil authorities in combating the PKK, which continues to occupy significant territories in Iraq. He described the "Terror-free Türkiye" process as beneficial for the entire region and highlighted intensive institutional cooperation between Ankara and Baghdad across multiple security and development sectors, building on agreements established during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's 2024 visit to Iraq.

Comprehensive Bilateral Partnership

The Turkish foreign minister outlined extensive joint efforts spanning security, energy, water management, trade, customs, and transportation through established working committees. Fidan particularly emphasized an upcoming water agreement with Iraq as "extremely important," noting it would represent Iraq's largest infrastructure investment and help resolve long-standing water issues through rehabilitation of irrigation systems and water infrastructure.

Vision for Regional Prosperity

Fidan articulated a vision of regional cooperation focused on peace, development, and mutual integration rather than division. He expressed confidence that regional nations possess sufficient capacity to solve their own problems without external intervention, noting that Iraq is taking "more confident steps in stability, peace, and tranquility." The minister also acknowledged Türkiye's energy cooperation with Iraq, including resumed oil pipeline operations and ongoing discussions regarding gas and electricity projects.
