Türkiye’s Fidan discusses Iran war efforts with Russia, Saudi

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate phone calls with his Russian and Saudi counterparts to discuss efforts to end the war in Iran, triggered by joint US-Israeli attacks. The talks follow inconclusive US-Iran negotiations in Islamabad and a new US naval blockade on Iranian ports.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday engaged in separate telephone conversations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud to coordinate efforts aimed at ending the ongoing war in Iran. The conflict began on Feb. 28 following joint US-Israeli attacks on Tehran.
Diplomatic push after Islamabad failure
According to Turkish diplomatic sources, the calls focused on regional developments and potential pathways to de-escalation. The consultations came after direct talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad over the weekend failed to produce an agreement. Those negotiations, the highest-level engagement between Washington and Tehran since 1979, followed a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8.
US blockade adds pressure
In a further escalation, US President Donald Trump announced a naval blockade on all Iranian ports, which took effect at 1400GMT on Monday, according to London-based maritime intelligence. Türkiye continues to engage with key regional and international actors to prevent further escalation and restore stability in the Middle East.
