The United Arab Emirates has strongly denied Israeli media reports claiming that Emirati forces attacked a water desalination facility in Iran, with a senior official dismissing the reports as "fake news." Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, chairman of the FNC's defense committee, asserted that Abu Dhabi would openly announce any military action it takes, as regional tensions remain high following US-Israeli strikes that have killed over 1,200 Iranians since Feb. 28.

The United Arab Emirates has categorically rejected Israeli media reports claiming that the Gulf nation carried out an attack on a water desalination facility in Iran. A senior Emirati official took to social media Sunday to dismiss the allegations as entirely unfounded, asserting that Abu Dhabi would never conceal military actions if they occurred.

Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, who chairs the defense, interior and foreign affairs committee at the Federal National Council, delivered a blunt rebuttal on the platform X. "This is fake news. When we do something, we have the courage to announce it," Al Nuaimi wrote, directly challenging the credibility of reports circulating in Hebrew-language media.

Israeli Media Reports Circulate

The denied claims originated from Israeli Channel 15, which cited unnamed Israeli sources alleging that the UAE had attacked an Iranian water desalination plant. The report was subsequently amplified by multiple Hebrew-language outlets, including the public broadcaster KAN, which suggested that Israeli officials had confirmed the strike marked the UAE's first military action against Iranian targets since the current conflict erupted.

KAN went further, asserting that the purported Emirati strike represented a significant escalation and demonstrated growing coordination between Gulf states and Israel amid the regional confrontation with Tehran. The reports painted a picture of expanding Arab involvement in the US-Israeli campaign against Iran, a narrative that Abu Dhabi has now forcefully rejected.

Regional Conflict Context

The flurry of unsubstantiated reports comes against the backdrop of intense regional warfare that began Feb. 28, when the United States and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran. According to Iranian figures, more than 1,200 people have been killed in the strikes, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and numerous senior military officials, with over 10,000 others wounded.

Tehran has retaliated with sustained missile and drone barrages targeting both Israel and Gulf countries hosting American military assets. The UAE and other Gulf states have found themselves in the crosshairs of Iran's response, suffering casualties and infrastructure damage from Iranian strikes while seeking to avoid being drawn directly into the conflict as combatants.

Emirati Position

Abu Dhabi has maintained a carefully calibrated position throughout the crisis, condemning attacks on its territory while refraining from direct military retaliation against Iran. The official denial of Israeli media reports reinforces this posture, signaling that the UAE is not prepared to be dragged into a wider war despite the provocations it has endured.

Al Nuaimi's forceful language—particularly the assertion that the UAE would openly acknowledge any military action it takes—serves multiple purposes. It reassures domestic audiences that their government is acting transparently, signals to Tehran that Abu Dhabi is not secretly participating in attacks, and reminds international observers that Gulf states should not be presumed to be automatic participants in the US-Israeli campaign.
