UN experts: Israeli violations threaten fragile Gaza ceasefire

United Nations experts report that Israeli forces have committed hundreds of ceasefire violations since early October, killing hundreds of Palestinians and severely restricting humanitarian aid. They are urging member states to take immediate action to pressure Israel and uphold the truce.
United Nations independent experts have issued an urgent call to member states, warning that continued Israeli violations are endangering the fragile ceasefire in Gaza. In a statement released on November 24, 2025, the experts reported that Israeli forces have committed at least 393 violations of the truce that came into effect on October 10, resulting in the deaths of 339 Palestinians, including more than 70 children, with over 871 injured .
Systematic Ceasefire Breaches and Humanitarian Crisis
The UN rapporteurs stated that attacks have occurred across all five governorates of Gaza, involving gunfire, artillery shelling, and airstrikes . They identified a single night of Israeli airstrikes on October 28 as the deadliest incident since the truce began, killing at least 104 people . The experts condemned these actions, stating, "The ongoing Israeli attacks against the Palestinian population in Gaza constitute a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement" . Furthermore, humanitarian access remains "critically restricted," with only two of six crossings open and aid deliveries frequently falling below half of the agreed target of 600 trucks per day .
Escalating West Bank Violence and International Complicity
The warning also highlighted a parallel escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank, where attacks by Israeli settlers and soldiers on Palestinian civilians, land, and property have intensified . The experts also raised the alarm about Israeli parliamentary legislation aiming to extend Israeli sovereignty to parts of the West Bank, describing such a move as "absolutely prohibited" and an advancement of de jure annexation . While welcoming the ceasefire, the experts stressed that the current arrangement lacks justice and accountability for crimes committed since October 2023 . They expressed concern that some peace initiatives risk entrenching the occupation, with one expert noting that a proposed 'peace plan' "risks adding insult to injury" after two years of what was described as a "genocidal assault" .
