US hits 'threat' site in south
US forces launched fresh airstrikes against a military installation in southern Iran, ABC News reported Wednesday, citing an American official who said the facility posed an active threat to troops and commercial shipping in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The official told the network that Wednesday's strikes targeted a location believed to endanger US forces operating near the vital waterway. President Donald Trump said he was "not satisfied with it, but we will be," warning that "either that, or we'll have to just finish the job" if diplomatic efforts failed to produce a lasting agreement.
Truce extended amid stalled talks
Regional tensions boiled over on February 28 when the US and Israel launched surprise attacks on Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with barrages of drones and missiles that hit targets across the region before authorities shuttered the Strait of Hormuz. More than two months of fighting have killed thousands and disrupted global energy shipments through the chokepoint.

A ceasefire took effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, though subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to secure a permanent settlement. Trump later extended the truce indefinitely while maintaining a blockade on vessels traveling to or from Iranian ports, periodically stating that a peace deal remained within reach despite the latest hostilities.
