Emergency landing
The incident occurred at 3:30 a.m. ET on July 1 when the helicopter went down in the Arabian Sea, according to a NAVCENT statement posted on X. "There is no indication the emergency was caused by hostile action," the command said.
NAVCENT confirmed that "three of the helicopter's four crew members have been recovered and are in stable condition aboard" the aircraft carrier. The command added that US Navy assets are searching for the missing aircrew member while the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
Regional operations
The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush operates in the US 5th Fleet area of operations, which includes the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf. The vessel supports maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the region.
