US Central Command announced that American forces have redirected 90 commercial ships and disabled four others to enforce President Trump’s blockade on vessels traveling to and from Iranian ports via the Strait of Hormuz. The blockade has been in place since April 13, following the US-Israeli war on Iran, despite a fragile ceasefire.

The United States announced on Tuesday that it has redirected 90 commercial vessels and disabled four others as part of President Donald Trump’s naval blockade on ships traveling to and from Iranian ports through the Strait of Hormuz. “As of May 20, US forces have redirected 90 ships and disabled 4 to ensure compliance,” US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on X. The blockade has been enforced since April 13, following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran that began on Feb. 28, which triggered Iranian retaliation against Israel and US allies in the Gulf and led to the closure of the strait.

Ceasefire and ongoing restrictions

A Pakistan-mediated ceasefire took effect on April 8, but talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. President Trump later extended the truce indefinitely while maintaining the blockade on Iranian ports. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most vital energy chokepoints, linking Gulf oil and gas producers to international markets. Disruptions since the start of the war have raised concerns over global fuel supplies, contributing to price spikes and inflationary pressures worldwide.
