White House dismisses Iran media draft as 'complete fabrication'

The White House on Wednesday dismissed as "a complete fabrication" a purported draft memorandum to end the US-Israeli war with Iran that was circulated by Tehran's state-controlled media, stating that nobody should believe reports issued by Iranian outlets and insisting that facts matter.
'Complete fabrication'
The White House on Wednesday flatly rejected as "a complete fabrication" a purported draft agreement to end the US-Israeli war with Iran that was circulated by Tehran's state-controlled media outlets. In a statement posted on X, the administration dismissed the document — which Iranian sources described as a memorandum of understanding — as entirely fictitious.
The White House stated: "This report from Iranian controlled media is not true and the MOU they 'released' is a complete fabrication. Nobody should believe what Iranian state media is putting out. Facts matter." The administration did not specify which Iranian outlet published the alleged draft or what terms it purportedly contained.
War context
The rejection comes amid the ongoing war between the United States, Israel and Iran that began on February 28, when Washington and its allies launched military action against the Islamic Republic. The conflict has since disrupted maritime traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz and triggered retaliatory strikes against American assets and allies in the Gulf region. Tehran has repeatedly accused the US and Israel of waging an "unwarranted large-scale war of aggression," while Washington maintains its actions are defensive.

The purported MOU surfaced as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict have yet to produce a breakthrough, with both sides trading accusations over the blockade of vital shipping lanes. More than 3,300 people have been killed in Iran since the war began on Feb. 28, with thousands more displaced and at least 13 US service members also confirmed dead.
