Xi urges Russia alliance for fairer global order in Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for deeper long-term cooperation with Russia during talks with Vladimir Putin in Beijing, saying both countries should work together to promote a more balanced global governance system as geopolitical tensions and unilateral policies continue to reshape international relations.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said China and Russia should strengthen strategic coordination to help shape a “more just and equitable” international order during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing on Wednesday. The meeting took place against the backdrop of rising global tensions and growing competition among major powers.
Beijing highlights strategic partnership
Speaking at the Great Hall of the People, Xi described the current international environment as increasingly unstable and warned against what he called the rise of “unilateral hegemony.” Despite global uncertainty, he said most countries continue to support cooperation, economic development and diplomatic engagement.
Xi emphasized that political trust between Beijing and Moscow has continued to deepen in recent years through expanded cooperation in trade, energy, technology and international affairs. He added that China and Russia should further enhance coordination to support long-term national development goals for both countries.

Putin visit follows Trump summit
Putin arrived in China for a two-day visit only days after US President Donald Trump completed a separate trip to Beijing, where he also held talks with Xi. The timing of the meetings has drawn international attention as Washington, Moscow and Beijing navigate tensions linked to Ukraine, the Middle East and global trade competition.
The Russian president’s visit also coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation signed between the two countries in 2001 by Putin and former Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
Treaty extension signals closer ties
Chinese and Russian officials confirmed that the bilateral friendship treaty was formally extended during Wednesday’s meetings, underlining the growing strategic alignment between the two neighboring powers.
Analysts view the renewed agreement as another sign of strengthening Russia-China relations at a time when both governments are seeking greater influence in international institutions such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations.
