Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held consultations with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and senior European Union officials regarding the American proposal to end the war with Russia. The discussions focused on aligning international efforts to achieve what Kyiv describes as a "dignified peace" while addressing Ukraine's ongoing defense needs.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has engaged in a series of high-level diplomatic discussions with NATO and European Union leaders concerning the US-backed peace proposal to resolve the conflict with Russia. The consultations come as Washington's 28-point plan gains momentum in international diplomatic circles.

Consultations with NATO Leadership

President Zelenskyy confirmed his discussion with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who offered condolences for the recent lethal attack in Ternopil. During their conversation, the Ukrainian leader emphasized that "Ukrainians, more than anyone else in the world, want this war to end" and reviewed available diplomatic options, including the comprehensive American peace initiative.

Alignment with European Partners

The diplomatic outreach extended to European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Zelenskyy noted the shared appreciation for American engagement, stating that teams from Ukraine, the United States, and European nations would collaborate in the coming days to develop a "fully aligned plan" for ending the hostilities.

Ongoing Defense Cooperation

Alongside peace efforts, Zelenskyy separately spoke with Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas about Ukraine's immediate defense requirements and potential joint production ventures. The Ukrainian president thanked Lithuania for its sustained support and participation in the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, a NATO program that enables members to fund American weapon purchases for Ukraine.
