The US Embassy in Ankara has announced changes to its operating hours in Türkiye due to the NATO summit taking place in the capital on July 7-8. In a security and service advisory, the embassy said routine appointments at diplomatic missions in Ankara and Istanbul would be suspended from June 29 to July 10.
Available services
During this period, only emergency services — including passport applications for those without existing passports, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, and notarial services — will be available. Applicants can request these services by sending a cargo communication form along with a document explaining the urgency, with a deadline of July 31. The US Consulate General in Istanbul will offer limited passport services and birth registration appointments during the same period, with bookings available via the consulate’s website.
Security measures
The embassy also reminded citizens that roads may be closed and heightened security measures will be in effect before and after the summit. The advisory reflects the extensive security preparations for the NATO gathering, which brings together leaders from 32 allied and nine invited countries. The suspension of routine services is a standard measure during major international events to ensure diplomatic staff can focus on summit-related coordination and security.
