Google, World Bank Partner on AI Digital Infrastructure for Emerging Economies

Google has announced a collaboration with the World Bank Group to develop AI-powered digital infrastructure for emerging markets. The initiative will use Google's Gemini AI models to help governments create interoperable networks for agriculture, healthcare, and skills development. The partnership builds on a successful pilot in India that assisted thousands of smallholder farmers.
Google has entered into a strategic partnership with the World Bank Group to create artificial intelligence-driven public digital infrastructure for emerging market economies worldwide. The collaboration aims to deploy what the companies call "Open Network Stacks," which will function as foundational digital infrastructure to help citizens access essential services in their local languages.
AI-Powered Service Delivery
The initiative will combine Google Cloud's advanced AI technology, including its Gemini models, with the World Bank Group's extensive development expertise. This synergy will enable governments to rapidly establish interoperable digital networks across critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and skills development. A key feature allows citizens to interact with these AI-powered services in over 40 languages, even using basic mobile devices without requiring sophisticated technology.
Proven Success in Pilot Program
This expanded partnership builds upon a successful pro bono trial conducted in India's Uttar Pradesh state, where the technology helped thousands of smallholder farmers improve their profitability. The demonstrated success in one of India's most populous states provided the validation needed to scale the approach to other emerging economies facing similar development challenges.

Ecosystem Development and Funding
To ensure sustainability and openness, Google.org is providing funding to the newly established nonprofit Networks for Humanity (NFH). The funding will support building universal digital infrastructure based on Beckn open network standards and Finternet asset tokenization, establishing regional innovation labs, and piloting social impact applications globally. This comprehensive approach aims to create a robust ecosystem for digital service delivery in developing nations.
