US forces handover K1 airbase in Kirkuk, northern Iraq

The United States military handed over the K1 military base to the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) on March 29, 2020 in Kirkuk. The K1 Air Base, 15km northwest of Kirkuk city is the third site coalition forces have left this month in line with U.S. plans to consolidate its troops in two locations in Iraq. Kirkuk Operations Commander Lieutenant General Saad Harbiye said U.S. forces have officially handed over command of the K1 base which was been used by US-led coalition troops to combat the Daesh terrorist organization.
