Turkish cabinet officers to reconvene for anti-graft debate
Turkey''s Council of Ministers will reconvene on Tuesday after a five-week break for March 30's local elections, which ended in victory for the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party.
Prime Minister will meet with his cabinet members at 1 pm to primarily discuss latest political development after the local elections. A draft bill to prevent further illegal wiretappings as well as a motion against the four former ministers accused of corruption will be on the table.
The ongoing tension on Turkey''s border with Syria will be another crucial item which the ministers will touch during the discussions.
AK Party, who won the 45.53 percent of votes across the country, and the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), who got 27.88 percent of the vote, wanted a parliamentary inquiry committee to be set up to look into charges against the four former ministers before the local elections.
The proceedings over the four ministers Muammer Güler, Erdogan Bayraktar, Zafer Çaglayan and Egemen Bagis, who resigned in the wake of the December 17 anti-graft investigations, will be concluded within a month.
