Turkish president meets Romanian president in Istanbul

Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted his Romanian counterpart Nicusor Dan in Istanbul on Saturday for comprehensive talks covering bilateral ties and Black Sea security, following the ceremonial handover of a Turkish-built patrol vessel to the Romanian Naval Forces Command.
Naval Handover
Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received Romanian President Nicusor Dan at the Istanbul Shipyard Command on Saturday, where the two leaders oversaw the formal handover of the patrol vessel TCG Akhisar to the Romanian Naval Forces, according to the Turkish Presidency.
Strategic Cooperation
Erdogan told Dan that Ankara attaches particular importance to deepening cooperation with Bucharest in trade, defense and security, and will continue taking steps to reinforce bilateral institutional ties, the Turkish Communications Directorate said on X.
The Turkish president underlined the critical need for close coordination between the two littoral states on Black Sea security, noting that Ankara is conducting meticulous efforts alongside other regional actors to preserve stability in the strategic waterway.
Regional Diplomacy
Erdogan also indicated that Ankara is pursuing vigorous diplomatic initiatives aimed at extending the positive momentum toward peace in Iran to help resolve the Russia-Ukraine war, according to the directorate.
The closed-door talks brought together Turkish National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci, Chief of the General Staff Gen. Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and presidential security adviser Ambassador Akif Cagatay Kilic.
