IDEF'23, the 16th International Defense Industry Fair, commenced in Istanbul yesterday. This highly anticipated event not only showcases a multitude of national projects but also offers a glimpse into the latest innovations presented by private companies in the defense sector. 1,461 defense industry giants representing 55 countries have gathered to exhibit their cutting-edge products and technologies across various sectors, including land, sea, aviation, space, transportation, and logistical support.

Aselsan shines

Spanning an area of 7,000 square meters and exhibiting 500 products and services, Aselsan stood out as the star of this year's fair. As the meeting point for global actors in the defense industry, IDEF 2023 provided Aselsan with the opportunity to unveil 200 new products and systems for the first time.

Among the newly showcased products by Aselsan were the TOLUN Miniature Bomb, capable of engaging both hard and soft land targets; the SADAK-4T Multi-Bay Transport for integration with F-16 aircraft; the AVCI, developed for attack helicopter pilots; the GÖKBERK Mobile Laser Weapon System; the GÖKSUR, designed to play a role in ship air defense; and the Zafer 3700, emphasizing secure communication for the Turkish police.

A showcase of 500 products

Aselsan's remarkable portfolio of nearly 500 domestic products showcases their prowess in areas like naval, aerial, air defense, border-coastal security, communication, electronic warfare, electro-optics, and weapon systems. With 84 countries already benefiting from its domestic engineering capabilities, Aselsan continues to establish itself as a global player in the defense industry.

120 agreements to be signed

The fair, which serves as Türkiye's international defense industry platform, was inaugurated by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, and Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır.

Haluk Görgün, the Chairman of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), emphasized the anticipated signing of 120 agreements during IDEF'23. With 31 Turkish procurement authorities hosting negotiation offices, the event is expected to facilitate an impressive total of 4,914 planned bilateral meetings, fostering new business collaborations and strengthening existing ones.

Hızır II and Eren impress

Katmerciler's Hızır II and Eren armored vehicles at IDEF'23 have impressed the audience with their robustness and adaptability to challenging terrains. These 4x4 vehicles, capable of handling mine threats and urban interventions, have gained significant attention and popularity in export markets, especially in Africa and the Middle East. Fair visitors were captivated by their advanced features and outstanding performance.

Çaka: Havelsan's Unmanned Underwater Kamikaze

Havelsan's innovative unmanned underwater kamikaze vehicle, Çaka, showcased at the fair as a prototype, has garnered significant attention. This vehicle boasts high explosives, causing impactful damage to its target upon collision and detonation. Its exceptional versatility allows it to operate both autonomously underwater and on the surface. The vehicle can be effectively controlled from various platforms, including mobile coastal control stations, maritime patrol aircraft, or frigates, thanks to its integration with warfare management systems. Havelsan also presents the 6x6 feature of the unmanned ground vehicle, Kapgan, to the admiration of fair attendees.
