Türkiye's low-cost carrier AJet has inaugurated a new flight route between Ankara and Baghdad, operating three weekly flights. The expansion strengthens air links between the Turkish and Iraqi capitals and is part of the airline's broader strategy to grow its network from Europe to the Middle East and North Africa.
Türkiye's low-cost airline AJet has officially launched a new direct flight route connecting the capital Ankara with Baghdad, Iraq. The airline announced that it will operate flights between the two capitals three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The inaugural flight was marked with a ceremony in Ankara and received a traditional water salute upon its arrival at Baghdad International Airport.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Regional Connectivity
The new route establishes a vital air bridge between Türkiye and Iraq, facilitating business and diplomatic travel. The flight duration for the Ankara to Baghdad route is approximately two hours and thirty-five minutes. This strategic expansion enhances connectivity from the Turkish heartland directly to a key Middle Eastern neighbor, reflecting growing economic and social ties between the two nations.
Ambitious Network Expansion Plans
The Baghdad route is a significant step in AJet's plan to significantly grow its flight network from its Ankara hub. The carrier currently serves 35 destinations across 26 countries from the Turkish capital. According to the company's announced strategy, it aims to add ten new cities across nine additional countries to its network by the end of 2026, extending its reach across Europe, the Caucasus, the Middle East, and North Africa.
