Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has praised Türkiye’s people-centric governance model, stating that his country has much to learn from Ankara’s approach. He urged the Bangladeshi diaspora in Türkiye to invest in education and economic sectors back home.

Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has highlighted Türkiye’s governance model as a source of inspiration for his country’s new administration, praising Ankara’s focus on serving its citizens. Speaking at an event in Istanbul marking Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day on Thursday, Swapon addressed members of the Bangladeshi community in Türkiye, emphasizing that Dhaka intends to build a government centered on the needs of its people.

New Bangladeshi government looks to deepen ties with Ankara

Swapon, who is in Istanbul to attend the two-day Stratcom Summit, told Bangladeshi expatriates that under the newly formed Bangladesh Nationalist Party government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, there is a strong desire to learn from Türkiye’s successful governance practices. “The new government will work for building a people-centric governance and in this context, we have a lot to learn from Türkiye,” he said, according to a statement from the Bangladeshi Consulate in Istanbul. The minister also urged members of the diaspora to channel investments into Bangladesh, particularly in education and the broader economy.

Bilateral relations poised for expansion

Swapon expressed confidence that ties between Bangladesh and Türkiye would grow stronger and become more multidimensional under the new administration. His remarks underscore the growing diplomatic and economic engagement between the two countries, which have steadily expanded cooperation across trade, defense, and cultural exchanges. The minister’s visit to Istanbul for the Stratcom Summit reflects Dhaka’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Ankara, as both nations seek to strengthen bilateral ties in an increasingly interconnected geopolitical landscape.
