Bride glitters with gold: Couple receives 1 million Turkish lira in wedding gifts

The son of Başkale tribe’s leader and the daughter of businessman Muhsin Aydın amassed 15 kilograms of gold and 1 million Turkish lira at their wedding in Turkey’s eastern Van.

As guests performed the traditional halay, a folk dance, they were gifted with cash. Guests waited in a long queue to present the groom, a construction engineer, with cash wedding gifts.
District governor Abdulselam Öztürk, District Garrison Commander Colonel Tefik Abaşıoğlu, District Police Chief Adil Metin, Hakkari former deputy Esat Canan, tribal leaders and about 4,000 guests from overseas attended the wedding.
