Cleanup completed at Ankara crash site that killed Libyan military chief

The wreckage from a fatal private jet crash in Ankara has been fully cleared from the site, Turkish officials confirmed. The December 23 crash near Kesikkavak village killed all eight on board, including Libya’s top military commander, General Mohammed Ali Al-Haddad.
International cooperation in investigation
The operation was managed by Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) from a coordination center on site. Earlier last week, technical teams from Libya and France joined Turkish authorities to conduct detailed inspections of the crash scene in Haymana district before the removal process began.
Methodical removal and site clearance
Following the joint examination, the process of clearing the aircraft debris commenced. Heavy machinery was used to load the wreckage onto trucks for transportation away from the rural area. With the completion of this phase, AFAD and gendarmerie teams have now withdrawn from the location.
A fatal diplomatic and military loss
The crash resulted in the deaths of a five-member Libyan military delegation and three crew members. The incident represents a significant loss for Libya and marks a somber event in Türkiye’s capital, Ankara, underscoring the risks of diplomatic and military travel.
