President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke with Finland's Alexander Stubb by phone on Wednesday, emphasizing Türkiye's diplomatic efforts to broker peace between Ukraine and Russia and calling for a lasting two-state solution in Gaza.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with his Finnish counterpart, President Alexander Stubb, on Wednesday, with discussions centered on bilateral relations and pressing regional conflicts. According to a statement from Türkiye's Communications Directorate, the two leaders reviewed the state of ties between Ankara and Helsinki.

Boosting Bilateral Trade and Relations

During the diplomatic call, President Erdoğan highlighted Türkiye's objective to increase trade volume with Finland. He expressed Ankara's intention to advance the relationship through concrete, planned steps, underscoring a commitment to stronger economic partnership.

Türkiye's Role in Ukraine-Russia Diplomacy

A key focus of the discussion was the war in Ukraine. President Erdoğan reiterated Türkiye's active role in striving for a successful conclusion to the peace process. He pointed to the Istanbul talks as a proven and effective diplomatic platform for dialogue, reinforcing Türkiye's position as a critical mediator in the conflict.

Call for Two-State Solution and Palestine Recognition

The leaders also addressed the situation in Gaza. President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye is closely monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire and affirmed that a lasting peace in the region is only possible through a two-state solution vision. The Turkish president noted that Finland's recognition of the State of Palestine would be a welcome development.

The call concluded with President Erdoğan extending congratulations to Finland on its upcoming Independence Day, which is observed on December 6.
