Erdogan commemorates Ertugrul Ghazi on 739th anniversary of death

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a message on Friday to commemorate the 739th anniversary of the death of Ertuğrul Ghazi, the father of Osman bey who founded the Ottoman Empire, as well as the Söğüt Yörük Festival which is being held in the midwestern province of Bilecik.
"Osman Ghazi, who followed in the footsteps of his father, Ertugrul Ghazi, and other sultans of the Ottoman Empire that walked the same path, had established an order based on equality, justice, and tolerance wherever they set foot," Erdogan said in a written statement issued through the Communications Directorate.
The 739th Söğüt Ertuğrul Ghazi Remembrance and Nomads Celebrations is slated to take place with social distance precautions due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in the town of Söğüt, where the Ottoman Empire was founded in 1299.

"It is a source of pride for us to have a civilization that ruled over three continents and the seven seas for centuries with justice. We will endlessly continue to protect our goal of preserving Anatolia as a homeland and carry on further strengthening this country in peace and prosperity," Erdogan added.
He added that the festival, which will be held from Friday to Sunday, will be a bridge that connects the past with the present, as well as the future.
The story of Ertugrul Ghazi has also claimed global-wide praise with the emergence of the hit TV series Resurrection: Ertugrul.
Often described as the Turkish Game of Thrones, the series depicts the 13th century Anatolia and tells the story before the establishment of the Ottoman Empire. It illustrates the struggle of Ertugrul Gazi, father of the empire's first leader.
The series illustrates the struggle of Ertuğrul and his warriors against a plethora of adversaries from the Knights Templar to Mongol invaders.
According to the state-run Pakistan Television (PTV), 133.38 million people have so far watched the drama series from April 25- May 14. Also, its episodes are trending on YouTube in Pakistan every day.
In just 20 days, since the series with Urdu dubbing started riding on the airwaves, PTV’s YouTube channel has registered exponential rise in its viewership with 2.1 million subscribers, shattering all previous records.
