Erdoğan, Macron discuss Iran ceasefire, urge protection of truce

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told French President Emmanuel Macron that diplomatic efforts supported by Türkiye played an important role in achieving the Iran ceasefire, and warned against any initiatives that could sabotage the truce, particularly attacks on Lebanon. He also stressed the need to launch the second phase of the Gaza peace plan.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation Saturday with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss bilateral relations, regional stability and global developments, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate announced. Erdoğan stated that advancing cooperation “in all areas, especially in the defense industry,” would benefit both countries. The leaders reviewed the process triggered by the attacks on Iran, which Erdoğan said has negatively affected the global environment.
Safeguarding the Ceasefire
Erdoğan noted that diplomatic efforts supported by Türkiye and other nations played “an important role” in achieving the ceasefire and stressed the need to protect the truce. He warned against any initiatives that could “sabotage the ceasefire process,” particularly attacks on Lebanon. Ankara will continue contributing to efforts aimed at maintaining stability, he added. The two leaders also discussed ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz “on the basis of international law.”
Gaza, Syria and Ukraine
Erdoğan emphasised the importance of launching the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, warning that the momentum achieved “should not be lost.” The conversation also covered developments in Syria, support for peace in the Caucasus, and efforts to revive negotiations between Ukraine and Russia for a lasting peace. The call came as US‑Iran talks began in Islamabad, mediated by Pakistan with Türkiye’s support, aiming to turn a two‑week ceasefire into a permanent agreement.
