Erdoğan, Pezeshkian discuss US-Iran truce as Türkiye backs lasting peace

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian that the upcoming US‑Iran talks must be used fully to secure lasting peace and stability. Ankara has made intensive efforts alongside other concerned countries to help broker the two‑week ceasefire, Erdoğan said, warning against any attempts to sabotage the peace process.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation Thursday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, focusing on the recently announced two‑week temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as broader regional security issues. According to a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, Erdoğan emphasised that Ankara, together with other concerned nations, has exerted “intensive efforts” in the process leading up to the ceasefire.
Call for Full Use of Upcoming Negotiations
Erdoğan stressed that the forthcoming talks between Tehran and Washington should be exploited to their fullest potential to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region. He underlined the critical importance of “not giving opportunity to those who want to sabotage” the peace process and reaffirmed Ankara’s readiness to provide “all possible support in the new phase.” The temporary ceasefire, announced on Tuesday, aims to pave the way for a final agreement to end the war that has caused thousands of casualties since it began on February 28.
First Round of Formal Talks in Islamabad
The first round of formal negotiations between Iran and the United States is expected to take place in Islamabad on Saturday. Türkiye has consistently supported diplomatic efforts to de‑escalate the conflict and has maintained close coordination with all parties. President Erdoğan’s direct engagement with his Iranian counterpart underscores Ankara’s commitment to playing a constructive role in stabilising the region and ensuring that the ceasefire leads to a durable political solution.
