Erdogan Pledges Turkish Support for Gaza Reconstruction Efforts

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized Türkiye's commitment to Gaza's reconstruction and humanitarian needs following his participation in the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit. The Turkish leader pledged comprehensive support for addressing Palestinian shelter requirements ahead of winter conditions while highlighting the significance of international cooperation in the rebuilding process.

Erdogan joined more than twenty world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, for the high-level diplomatic gathering in the Egyptian resort town. The Turkish president, alongside Trump, Sisi, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, formally signed the ceasefire agreement during the ceremony. Speaking to journalists during his return flight from Egypt, Erdogan characterized his diplomatic engagement with President Trump as "extremely important" and vowed to maintain this cooperative approach with continued sensitivity.

The Turkish president outlined concrete measures Türkiye is undertaking to support Gaza's recovery, noting that approximately 350 humanitarian aid trucks from Türkiye have recently entered the territory. Erdogan emphasized the need for international collaboration, seeking support "from all—from the Gulf countries to the United States and Europe" to ensure comprehensive reconstruction efforts. He stressed the importance of maintaining international awareness about the situation in Gaza to prevent the humanitarian crisis from being forgotten amid other global developments.

President Erdogan reiterated Türkiye's longstanding position on Palestinian statehood, affirming that "the only solution to the Palestinian cause is the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with full territorial integrity, based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital." Regarding neighboring Syria, the Turkish leader issued warnings to the Syrian Democratic Forces, urging them to avoid "wrong paths" and support Syria's territorial unity. Erdogan suggested that rapid integration of these forces with Syria would accelerate the country's development initiatives and regional stability.
