Turkish-owned vessels exit Hormuz safely after blockade

Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced on Friday that 15 Turkish-owned ships carrying 99 personnel have safely departed the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf, adding that authorities coordinated closely with relevant institutions throughout the crisis to ensure citizen safety.
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu confirmed on Friday that 15 Turkish-owned vessels waiting in the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf have safely departed the region as of June 26. The ships carried a total of 99 Turkish sailors, the minister said on the social media platform NSosyal, ending a prolonged wait that had lasted more than 100 days amid clashes between Iran, the United States and Israel.
Coordination efforts
Uraloglu stated that Turkish authorities monitored developments in the strategic waterway from the first moment in close coordination with all relevant government institutions and maritime bodies. Officials continued to track the complex evacuation process to ensure the safety of citizens and sailors throughout the prolonged crisis, he added.
Three other Turkish-owned vessels currently in the Gulf did not request departure because they are continuing commercial activities within the region, Uraloglu noted. Türkiye does not have any ships with an immediate request to leave the Persian Gulf, he stressed, confirming that Ankara maintains close oversight of remaining maritime traffic.
Regional tensions
The strategic waterway was closed for more than 100 days due to clashes between Iran, the US and Israel, disrupting one of the world's most critical shipping lanes for oil and gas transit. The blockade forced vessels to shelter in place until authorities could secure safe passage conditions for Turkish-flagged and Turkish-owned commercial traffic.
