Erdoğan: Türkiye navigating Mideast crisis prudently, avoiding traps
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared that Türkiye is steering through the Middle East conflict with caution and prudence, determined to stay clear of the “ring of fire.” He emphasized Ankara’s commitment to calling right “right” and wrong “wrong,” while rejecting traps designed to draw the nation into wider confrontation.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a comprehensive assessment of Türkiye’s stance on the escalating Middle East conflict following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, stressing that the country is navigating the turbulent period with deliberate caution. “We are not falling into traps set for us,” Erdoğan said, reaffirming Ankara’s determination to “steer clear of the ring of fire” while upholding brotherhood and neighborly relations.

A principled voice in a volatile region

Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye stands out globally for its moral clarity. “Türkiye is one of the rare countries that dares to call right ‘right’ and wrong ‘wrong,’” he stated, noting that this characteristic has been widely recognized since the attacks launched on February 28 against neighboring Iran. He added that Ankara has been praised for correctly reading and analyzing from day one a process that has engulfed the region in blood and gunpowder.

Strengthening resilience amid global upheaval

The president outlined Türkiye’s comprehensive preparations for an evolving global environment of conflict, highlighting steps taken to enhance energy security through diversification and domestic resource development. He pointed to strengthened infrastructure, transportation networks, and financial resilience against external shocks. Erdoğan also noted that Türkiye has expanded cooperation mechanisms with dozens of countries, particularly across Africa and Latin America, while boosting industrial capacity through new organized industrial zones and technoparks.

Defense self-sufficiency and expanded security doctrine

Despite what Erdoğan described as “hidden and open embargoes,” he said Türkiye has achieved significant self-sufficiency in defense, from unmanned aerial vehicles to missiles, electronic warfare systems, and air defense capabilities. He also underscored a fundamental shift in Ankara’s security paradigm, noting that Türkiye has expanded its security perimeter beyond its borders—a transformation that reflects the nation’s growing strategic depth.

A call to halt Israeli aggression

Addressing the broader conflict, Erdoğan condemned what he called “Israel’s uncompromising, maximalist, and radical stance,” warning that it must not be allowed to undermine diplomatic solutions. “The massacre network led by Netanyahu must be stopped immediately,” he said, stressing that every country must take a bold and proactive stance. He urged that no nation that values global peace should fuel the fire Israel has unjustly ignited in the region.

Upholding peace and brotherhood

The president warned that war leaves deep scars not only on infrastructure but also on minds and hearts. He emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to “the universal language of love, peace, and brotherhood,” noting that retaliatory actions risk escalating anger and sowing discord among peoples. He highlighted that Türkiye’s vision of a terror‑free region is disrupting plans to divide Turks, Kurds, Arabs, and Persians. “The winners will be our country, our nation, and the brotherly peoples of our region,” Erdoğan concluded.

Regional context

The US and Israel launched a joint air offensive against Iran on February 28, which has claimed over 1,340 lives, including Iran’s then‑supreme leader. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes against Israel and Gulf states hosting American military assets. On Monday, US President Donald Trump announced a five‑day halt on strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure, citing talks with Tehran—a claim Iranian officials have dismissed as “fake news.”
