Erdoğan: Türkiye secured food supply amid regional wars

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that Türkiye has successfully protected its food security and agricultural production despite conflicts in Iran and the Gulf. He credited a balanced foreign policy, early fertilizer stockpiling, and new World Bank-backed financing for farmers.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared Tuesday that Türkiye has shielded its food supply chain and agricultural sector from the spillover effects of regional wars, climate risks, and global crises. Speaking at the World Farmers’ Day program in Ankara, Erdoğan said that through a “balanced foreign policy,” Türkiye protected both national stability and food security for its 86 million citizens “without any disruption.”
Precautions and agricultural strength
Erdoğan noted that Ankara has been on alert since conflicts affecting Iran and Gulf countries began, ensuring agricultural production remained unaffected. “In agriculture, we had already secured fertilizer and fertilizer raw material supplies. Our fertilizer stocks are at sufficient levels,” he said. He added that Türkiye ranks third globally in vegetable production, fourth in fruit production, and among the top three producers in 21 crop categories. Türkiye also exports seeds to 117 countries.
New financing for farmers
The president announced a new World Bank-backed initiative under the Türkiye Agrifood Sector Transformation Project, providing financing covering up to 80% of investment costs with terms of up to seven years and a maximum of 10 million per project. The first tranche of a 5.3 billion package will make 750millionavailablein2026.AseparateCreditGuaranteeFundmechanismwillcreateapproximately500 million in credit for primary producers, supporting 400,000 farmers and generating 250,000 new jobs.

Solidarity with Palestinians
Erdoğan also expressed solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, saying their lands have been “watered with blood and suffering.” He added: “May God grant us all the chance to witness those fertile lands flourish again, trees turn green once more, and children laugh and play joyfully.” Türkiye continues to position itself as a regional agricultural powerhouse while advocating for food sovereignty and humanitarian support for conflict-affected populations.
