Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan makes a speech as he attends the World Economic Forum (WEF) Turkiye Country Strategy Meeting at the Dolmabahce Office in Istanbul, Turkiye on March 27, 2026.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has declared that the cost of the ongoing Middle East conflict is being borne not only by the warring parties but by all of humanity. Speaking at a World Economic Forum meeting in Istanbul, he warned that continued fighting would drive up global energy costs and destabilize economies worldwide.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a stark warning on Friday about the far-reaching consequences of the Middle East war, stating that the price of what he called a “senseless, unlawful, and unnecessary war shaking our region” is being paid by all of humanity. Speaking at the World Economic Forum Türkiye Country Strategy Meeting in Istanbul, Erdoğan emphasized that when diplomacy and dialogue offer a common ground, sabotaging those paths imposes a burden on the entire world.

Global economic fallout deepens as conflict persists

Erdoğan cautioned that if the conflicts continue, the bill to be paid will only grow larger, with geographic distance offering no protection. He noted that the repercussions are already being felt across energy markets, production networks, information technology, transportation, and global trade. Rising energy risks, fragile supply chains, and growing protectionism are making the global economy more vulnerable, he said, adding that countries on different continents will increasingly feel the impact—particularly in terms of energy security.

Türkiye positions itself as hub for investment and stability

The meeting, themed “Growing at a Global Hub: Strengthening Competitiveness and Resilience,” brought together 23 international investors from 16 countries representing sectors worth $1.2 trillion. Discussions focused on Türkiye’s strategic role in the global economy, its investment potential, and long-term growth prospects. Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek outlined the country’s reform agenda and investment policies, while Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar addressed energy security and diversification. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke on Türkiye’s role in regional stability and international cooperation. The gathering also featured BlackRock CEO Laurence Fink and World Economic Forum interim President Alois Zwinggi, underscoring growing international interest in Türkiye’s economic trajectory.
