Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held separate meetings with his Saudi and Jordanian counterparts on the sidelines of a regional gathering in Riyadh, where escalating Middle East tensions top the agenda. Diplomatic sources confirmed the talks, which underscore Ankara's active diplomatic engagement as regional instability grows following recent military escalations involving Iran.

Diplomatic push in Riyadh

Fidan met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi amid a broader diplomatic effort to address the rapidly deteriorating security environment. The discussions focused on recent regional developments, though officials did not disclose further details about the content of the conversations.

High-level regional gathering

The Turkish top diplomat is in the Saudi capital to participate in a significant regional meeting hosted by the kingdom, bringing together representatives from key nations including Azerbaijan, Bahrain, the UAE, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Pakistan, Syria, and Jordan. The gathering reflects growing concern among regional actors over the widening conflict.

Addressing escalating tensions

The urgent consultations come against a backdrop of intensified hostilities, following the joint US-Israeli offensive against Iran that began on Feb. 28, which triggered retaliatory strikes by Tehran across multiple countries. Türkiye continues to advocate for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions while maintaining close coordination with regional partners to prevent further spillover of the conflict.
